This is a piggy back on Mel's INCREDIBLE post regarding her DEXA scan yesterday. I'm going to show some collective support and post some numbers of my own. I had my three month body comp check at the gym yesterday evening and have determined a few things:
1) 140lbs is probably my ideal weight at this point. In fact, I'd go as far to say that my ideal RANGE is anywhere from 138lbs-143lbs. Why is this ideal for me? Primarily because I really want to know what it feels like to lift 100lbs over my damn head, and I don't think muscle mass at a weight of 135lbs would support that goal.
Reality Check: I plucked my goal weight and measurements from a time that I was very unhealthy. At age 19 I was smoking close to two packs of cigarettes a day, eating only once per day, and in love with the fact I just could not feel my body. Weird, right? I tipped the scales at 117, felt like a lithe little thing, but could I climb a flight of stairs? Barely. You could have hung clothes on my clavicle. How gross is that?
2) I think that my days of losing inches, plural, en masse, are pretty much over. A quarter inch here, half inch there, sure. I am now on the level of fine tuning and tweaking, so my thick red marker of FAIL needs to go back in the desk.
Reality Check: The thick red marker of FAIL needs to be retired. COMPLETELY. How does feeling like a failure empower me to move forward? Um, it doesn't. I have never enjoyed proving myself wrong, just everyone else. I'm going to replace "try harder" with "keep going" and see how that works.
Ok, now for the moment of truth, here are my numbers, measurements in inches:
Weight: 140.8 (down 2lbs)
Body Fat: 24.2% (down 3%)
Calf: 14 (both, up 1, go calf muscles!!!)
Thigh: 21R 20.5L (switched from 3 months ago)
Bicep: 11.5 (both, up .5, strong, strong!)
Waist: 28.25 (same)
Chest: 34.25 (down .25, of course)
Shoulders: 40 (up .75, thank you pull ups)
Hips: 33.5 (same)
Neck: 12.25 (same)
There you have it. The only number that I would like to see inch its way down is the body fat. I'll be making my appointment for a fancy body scan here soon.
Wow, it doesn't feel like I'm standing here naked. Sweet.

Thanks for standing (figuratively) naked with me!
Congratulations on torching 3% body fat. That is tremendously awesome. As are all your measurements. I hope you've got some swagger going right now.
Best part of this post: "Keep going."
You know, my Dave is always giving me that advice when I think I should be "working harder." Honestly, Erika, how could we? Truly.
What would you remove from your diet? What would you do to your training? Your commitment level?
Is there anything left to tweak? I doubt it.
At this point, all we can do is eat great, kill it at our workouts, enjoy blessed sleep, and keep going.
I'll keep going with you.
Not a problem! I felt like your bravery deserved some company :o) Thanks so much and I do feel a little swagger.
It's all about "keep going" now! I kept asking myself all those questions you just posed and while I could create answers, they would be just reworded statements of what I'm already doing, haha!
Thanks for jumping on board, hon, I'm really proud of you! Let's make a tshirt :o)
I would definitely wear a "Keep Going" t-shirt... or even, "Stay on your Grizzly"
Fun!
how 'bout "Too stubborn to give up"
I like all of those! Only for these shirts they need to be tattoo flash style...with banners and flames. and skulls with swords through them.
My Goodness! Your bravery blows me away. I'm getting thisclose to following your lead and posting the dirty truth...
do it Georgia! it's actually kind of liberating. :o)
I have to agree. The first time I posted my weight and body fat % on my blog, I felt very self-conscious... but then I found it was much easier to talk about the numbers in a dispassionate, objective way.
As Erika and I realized when we talked about this before, secrets have power, so making your "special numbers" a secret gives them power.
And really, who can be embarrassed or ashamed of a number when we all workout like warriors, eat like cavewomen, and once in a while, celebrate like people who deserve it?!
I have had a couple of days off catching up on blogs. I just got my body fat tested 5 weeks ago after 6 months because I couldn't bear to see the numbers. Once I did it, it was exactly what I thought it would be but not as scary. Now I will tell anyone who asked and some who don't that I am 25% body fat! Well, that was 5 weeks ago, one more week and I will check again! You rock every workout I see you in! Your attitude is amazing and that is half the battle. Thanks for the inspiring blog!
